Westborough, MA — After falling behind 1-0 halfway through the first period, Ryan Flaherty scored the first goal of the season for Wachusett. Travis Laidlaw assisted on the goal to tie the score at 1 at the first intermission. Caden Lane put Wachusett up 2-1 just 2:37 into the 2nd. Matt Bjorkman and Brayden Allaire picked up assists on the goal. At 6:58, Laidlaw scored an unassisted goal to extend Wachusett's lead to 3-1, which is how it would stay through the 2nd intermission. Groton-Dunstable scored the first goal of the 3rd to pull the score to 3-2, but Laidlaw scored his second of the night. It was a power play goal at 6:03 assisted by Cody Penniman and Ethan Bennett. Matt Brousseau finished the scoring for the Mountaineers at 10:22 on a goal assisted by Allaire and Lane, which extended Wachusett's lead to 5-2. Kevin Shaw turned away 8 shots to earn the win and the Mountaineers had 29 shots on net for the game.
