Wachusett Rebounds With 4-3 Win over Acton-Boxboro
Acton Boxborough Regional 3, Wachusett Regional 4
Lexington, MA — Coming off its only loss of the season, Wachusett righted the ship with a 4-3 win over Acton-Boxboro.
AB took a 1-0 lead with 2:37 left in the first period, but Wachusett would tie the score at 1 just 1 minute and 26 seconds later when freshman defenseman Colin Carlson netted his first career goal, a bar-down snipe from just outside the top of the circles. The goal was assisted by Ryan Flaherty.
AB would regain the lead at the 4:54 mark of the second, but again Wachusett would get the equalizer at the 12:28 mark of the second. Senior captain Matt Bjorkman banged home a rebound on the power play. Assists would go to Ethan Bennett and Cody Penniman.
Wachusett would get its first lead of the game just 2:14 into the 3rd period when Cody Penniman scored off a Travis Laidlaw feed. Then, with just over 3 minutes left in the game, Ryan Flaherty would score the eventual game-winner with assists going to linemates Penniman and Laidlaw.
AB scored just 25 seconds later to pull within one at 4-3, but that's how the game would end despite pulling their goalie and a couple of desperation opportunities.
Kevin Shaw remained undefeated in net for the Mountaineers turning away 18 of the 21 shots he faced.
After a week off, the team will resume play in the New Year against Auburn at the DCU Center on January 4.
