Tanner, AL — Tanner Varsity Rattlers could not hold onto the lead against Cherokee on Friday and fell 19-13 despite leading by seven at one point. Tanner Varsity Rattlers collected 10 hits and Cherokee had two in the high-scoring affair. Cherokee were the first to get on the board in the first when Eli Brown grounded out, scoring one run. Trae Malone singled to center field, which helped Tanner Varsity Rattlers tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. A fielder's choice by Michael Dempsey gave Tanner Varsity Rattlers the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the second. Tanner Varsity Rattlers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Jaden Williams grounded into a fielder's choice, and Tanner Varsity Rattlers scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run. Tanner Varsity Rattlers scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Javen Carter singled, scoring one run, Ashley Lagrone singled, scoring one run, and Williams singled, scoring three runs. Cherokee flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring 11 runs on one hit to take the lead, 13-9. The biggest blow in the inning was a wild pitch that drove in two. Cherokee scored six runs on zero hits in the top of the sixth inning. Brown grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Cade Tice was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, H Thompson drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run.
