Tanner Varsity Rattlers had trouble keeping up with Columbia in a 17-5 loss on Thursday.
Columbia got on the board in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, Jesse N tripled, scoring two runs, and Josh H grounded out, scoring one run. They added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Tanner committed an error, Reid L singled to center field, Derek D was struck by a pitch, and Daniel M singled to left field, each scoring one run.
N hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the sixth for the Columbia.
Columbia scored seven runs on one hit in the top of the seventh inning. A wild pitch scored one run, Davntae H drew a walk, scoring one run, Reid P drew a walk, scoring one run, a passed ball scored one run, and Noah tripled, scoring three runs.
M earned the win for Columbia. The starter surrendered nine hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out 17 and walking three. Trae Malone pitched three and one-third innings in relief for Tanner Varsity Rattlers. The righty allowed five hits and two runs while, striking out two and walking two. Takorey Green took the loss for Tanner Varsity Rattlers. The right-handed pitcher went two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking three.
Tanner Rattlers collected nine hits in the game. Ashley Lagrone, Hunter Moss, Malone, and Michael Dempsey each collected two hits for the Rattlers. Jaden Williams, Moss, and Malone each drove in one run for the Rattlers. Lagrone, Moss, and Dempsey each stole multiple bases for Tanner. Tanner stole eight bases in the game.
