Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons fell 6-3 to North Hollywood on Monday despite out-hitting them six to three. D'Angelo Duran led Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons with three hits.
North Hollywood got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Balsam walked, and Barrios grounded out, each scoring one run.
Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons jumped back into the lead in the top of the sixth inning after Bryan Aquino doubled, and David Castaneda was struck by a pitch, each scoring one run.
North Hollywood jumped into the lead in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored one run, Cardona singled, scoring two runs, and Balsam was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.
Duran stepped on the mound first for Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons. The starter gave up two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking five. Milo Medeiros took the loss for Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons. The reliever went one-third of an inning, giving up three runs on zero hits, striking out none and walking three.
Aquino led Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 1-for-2 on the day. Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons turned one double play in the game.
Cardona led North Hollywood with two hits in three at bats. Balsam and Cardona each drove in two runs for North Hollywood. North Hollywood had a strong eye at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Park, Balsam, and Yi led the team with two free passes each.
