Los Angeles, CA — By GameChanger Media Despite a 4-run deficit in the sixth inning, Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons almost came all the way back, eventually falling 8-7 to Roosevelt on Monday. Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons closed the gap by scoring on a single and a double. Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons lost despite out-hitting Roosevelt 10 to five. D'Angelo Duran led Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons with three hits. Roosevelt were the first to get on the board in the first when a passed ball scored one run. Cutlor Gouger-Fannon doubled down the left field line, which helped Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons tie the game at one in the top of the third. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Roosevelt went back into the lead after #8 singled to center field, #7 walked, and #2 walked, each scoring one run. Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Duran, and an error. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Roosevelt went back into the lead after #26 grounded into a fielder's choice, #1 singled down the right field line, #21 grounded out, and #23 walked, each scoring one run. Anthony Velasquez took the loss for Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons. The hurler went one and one-third innings, allowing four runs on two hits, striking out one and walking three. Duran started the game for Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons. The pitcher gave up three hits and four runs (three earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking four. #7 stepped on the mound first for Roosevelt. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over two-thirds of an inning, striking out one and walking none. Verdugo Hills Varsity Dons accumulated 10 hits in the game.
