Both teams were strong on the bump on Wednesday, but South Hills was just a little bit stronger at the plate in their 3-2 victory over Alta Loma Varsity Braves. Grant MacCharles started the game for Alta Loma Varsity Braves and recorded 13 outs.
Alta Loma Varsity Braves was right in it until South Hills hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning.
South Hills were the first to get on the board in the second when Carson Baker singled, scoring one run.
Alta Loma Varsity Braves captured the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the third after MacCharles singled to the left side of the infield, and Cody Primanto doubled to left field, each scoring one run.
Wesley Manning doubled to center field, which helped South Hills tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.
Gabriel Guerrero earned the win for South Hills. The reliever allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Wyatt Snook took the loss for Alta Loma Varsity Braves. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run (zero earned) on one hit, striking out one and walking none. MacCharles started on the bump for Alta Loma Varsity Braves. The hurler surrendered five hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two. Nicolas Munoz started on the bump for South Hills. The pitcher gave up four hits and two runs (zero earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.
Primanto and MacCharles were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Alta Loma Varsity Braves. MacCharles led Alta Loma Varsity Braves with two hits in three at bats. Alta Loma Varsity Braves turned one double play in the game.
Manning provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led South Hills with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day.
