South Pasadena, CA — Natalie Kan drove in four runs on one hit to lead South Pasadena Varsity Tigers past Temple City Varsity Rams 16-6 on Thursday. In the third inning, Kan hit a grand slam to center field.
A double by Mia Estrada put Temple City Varsity Rams on the board in the top of the first.
In the bottom of the first inning, South Pasadena Varsity Tigers went back into the lead after Temple City Varsity Rams committed an error, and Talula Bearden doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Temple City Varsity Rams took the lead in the top of the second. Zoe Grimaldi homered to right field, scoring two runs, to give Temple City Varsity Rams the leg up, 3-2.
South Pasadena Varsity Tigers captured the lead, 5-3, in the bottom of the second when Cassidy Lee lined out, scoring one run, and Lucia Atencio doubled, scoring two runs.
Five more South Pasadena Varsity Tigers runs crossed the plate in the third inning to extend the lead to 10-3. Brooke Zeisler singled, scoring one run, and Kan hit a grand slam to center field.
South Pasadena Varsity Tigers scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bearden doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Emma Becerra tripled, scoring two runs, and Zeisler doubled, scoring one run.
Kan earned the win for South Pasadena Varsity Tigers. The lefty surrendered seven hits and six runs (three earned) over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Paloma Moon took the loss for Temple City Varsity Rams. The starting pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, giving up 16 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits, striking out one and walking three.
South Pasadena Varsity Tigers accumulated 17 hits in the game. Number eight hitter, Zeisler, showed the depth of South Pasadena Varsity Tigers's lineup, by leading them with three hits in four at bats. Lee, Bearden, Racquel Dominguez, Atencio, Taelyn Adams, and Becerra each collected multiple hits for South Pasadena Varsity Tigers.
Grimaldi led Temple City Varsity Rams with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The right fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Estrada and Melinda Lansford were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Temple City Varsity Rams while hitting back-to-back. Iliannie Carrillo stole two bases.
South Pasadena Varsity Tigers will travel to La Canada for their next game on Monday.
