Show Low, AZ — Riley Heuett hit two home runs and drove in three as Show Low Varsity Cougars defeated Chinle 18-1 on Thursday. Heuett homered in the fourth and fourth innings.
Show Low Varsity Cougars scored 11 runs in the fourth inning on the way to victory. Avery Ervien tripled, scoring two runs, Heuett homered to left field, scoring two runs, Gracie Umphress homered to left field, scoring two runs, Ari Rivera singled, scoring one run, an error scored three runs, and Heuett hit a solo home run to left field.
Show Low Varsity Cougars jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after an error scored one run, and Tatum Townsend doubled, scoring two runs.
Show Low Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Aspyn Clark singled down the left field line, and Addisyn Clark tripled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Show Low Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Angelee Villa tripled down the right field line, and Umphress singled to left field, each scoring one run.
Chinle scored one run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run to center field by E Begay on an 0-2 count.
Clark earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The hurler surrendered one hit and one run over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. C Charley took the loss for Chinle. The hurler went four innings, giving up 18 runs (16 earned) on 17 hits, striking out three and walking four. Lyndie Wallentine pitched one inning of shutout ball for Show Low Varsity Cougars in relief. The reliever allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Show Low Varsity Cougars collected 17 hits in the game. Umphress and Heuett each drove in three runs for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Ervien, Clark, Clark, Rivera, and Rylee Wyatt each collected multiple hits for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Clark and Rivera each stole multiple bases for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Show Low Varsity Cougars ran wild on the base paths, piling up seven stolen bases for the game.
Begay went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
