Joseph City, AZ — By GameChanger Media Aspyn Clark collected three hits in four at bats, as Show Low Varsity Cougars defeated Joseph City 8-6 on Saturday. Clark hit a home run to left field in the second inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the fifth inning. Show Low Varsity Cougars built a 7-run lead in the third inning and then held off Joseph City's charge. Joseph City closed the gap by scoring on a solo home run, a ground out, an error, a single, and a single. A double by Addisyn Clark put Show Low Varsity Cougars on the board in the top of the first. Show Low Varsity Cougars scored two runs in the top of the second on a home run to left field by Clark. Show Low Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Tatum Townsend singled to center field, Gracie Umphress walked, Rylee Wyatt walked, and Clark grounded out, each scoring one run. A Neill hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth for the Joseph City. Joseph City scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. S Murdock grounded out, scoring one run, an error scored one run, G Jesmer singled, scoring two runs, and L Sander singled, scoring one run. Riley Heuett earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The starter allowed nine hits and four runs (three earned) over six and one-third innings, striking out six and walking none. Sander took the loss for Joseph City. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering seven runs on eight hits, striking out four and walking four. Clark collected the save. Show Low Varsity Cougars tallied 11 hits in the game. Clark, Angelee Villa, and Townsend each collected multiple hits for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Show Low Varsity Cougars turned one double play in the game. Joseph City accumulated 13 hits in the game. Jesmer drove the middle of the lineup, leading Joseph City with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-4 on the day. Sander went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Joseph City in hits.
