Carlsbad Varsity Lancers built a 6-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off McKinney Boyd's charge for a 7-6 victory on Friday. McKinney Boyd closed the gap by scoring on a ground out, a home run, and a single.
McKinney Boyd opened the scoring in the first after an error scored one run.
Carlsbad Varsity Lancers took the lead in the top of the third inning after Ayden Muñoz homered to right field, Liam Stigers singled down the right field line, and Rob Bering singled up the middle, each scoring one run.
Hunter Dawson earned the win for Carlsbad Varsity Lancers. The righty gave up zero hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Walls took the loss for McKinney Boyd. The hurler went two and one-third innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits, striking out five and walking one. Benjamin Lopez collected the save. Jack Nolan appeared in relief for Carlsbad Varsity Lancers.
Lucas Johnson and Muñoz were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Carlsbad Varsity Lancers. Bering and Muñoz each collected two hits for Carlsbad Varsity Lancers. Bering stole two bases. Carlsbad Varsity Lancers stole five bases in the game.
Kleman drove the middle of the lineup, leading McKinney Boyd with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Hitchcock went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead McKinney Boyd in hits. McKinney Boyd had patience at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Kleman and Le Nevy led the team with two bases on balls each.
McKinney Boyd ran wild on the base paths, tallying five stolen bases for the game.
Carlsbad Varsity Lancers will travel to Argyle for their next game on Saturday.
