South Pasadena, CA — The South Pasadena Varsity Tigers played the second extra innings game this week, winning in the bottom of the ninth inning. Both pitching and offense took a starring role in the game against Temple City at home. The Tigers took the early lead with a double by Aaron Kawasaki in the first inning. Two batters later, Raphi Hall hit a double to right, to score Kawasaki. In the bottom of the fourth, another pair of doubles, this time by Jon Bracamonte and Cody Robinson, tied the score at 2-2. Excellent pitching by Phil Malatesta, Raphi Hall, and Bracamonte, kept the Temple City Rams in check. The pitchers had eight strikeouts and only gave up two runs. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Gabe Vogel reached first on an error. Another double by Kawasaki and an intentional walk for Bracamonte loaded the bases for the Tigers. Vogel hustled home on a wild pitch, earning the Tigers a victory against their league rival. Charlie Vogel contributed another double and Kawasaki went 3 for 4 on the day.
