Matt Rogers’s Big Day Propels South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers Past Rams JV

South Pasadena, CA — Matt Rogers collected three hits in five at bats, as South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers defeated Rams JV 9-3 on Monday. Rogers hit a HOME RUN to left field in the first inning, doubled in the fifth inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Rams JV opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Rams JV first got on the board when Joshua Cooper singled, scoring one run.
South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers captured the lead, 4-2, in the bottom of the first when Rogers homered to left field, scoring two runs, Julian Barnes singled, scoring one run, and Liam Baum hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Sawyer Courtice singled down the left field line, and Zach Park grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Jesse Li began the game for South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers. The hurler surrendered two hits and two runs over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking two. Julian Sanchez led things off on the hill for Rams JV. The starter gave up 11 hits and eight runs (six earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking three. Daniel Byun tossed one inning of scoreless ball for South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers in relief. The pitcher gave up zero hits, striking out two and walking one.
South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers amassed 14 hits in the game. Barnes, David Kemper, and Nathan Gutierrez each collected multiple hits for South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers.
Cooper drove the middle of the lineup, leading Rams JV with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Rams JV turned one double play in the game.
South Pasadena Junior Varsity Tigers will travel to Temple City for their next game on Thursday.
