Valley Center, KS — Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As Goddard Varsity Lions Falls To Valley Center Varsity Hornets By GameChanger Media A walk-off left Goddard Varsity Lions on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Valley Center Varsity Hornets on Thursday at Valley Center. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the seventh when Jacob Morton doubled, scoring one run. Jayden Barrett drove in four runners in the loss. The center fielder went 2-4 on the day. Valley Center Varsity Hornets were the first to get on the board in the first when Gavin Saner singled, scoring one run. A line out by Austin Saner extended the Valley Center Varsity Hornets lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Goddard Varsity Lions jumped into the lead in the top of the fourth when Aydan Hyson induced Eastyn Vieyra to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, Barrett singled, scoring two runs, and Landon Kohlhorst doubled, scoring one run. Valley Center Varsity Hornets flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on five hits to take the lead, 8-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Doc Needham that drove in three. Goddard Varsity Lions tied the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a double by Lincoln Jensen, an error, and a single by Barrett. Kohlhorst took the loss for Goddard Varsity Lions. The starting pitcher went six and one-third innings, surrendering nine runs (five earned) on 14 hits, striking out two and walking one. Hyson stepped on the mound first for Valley Center Varsity Hornets. The starter surrendered five hits and four runs over six innings, striking out seven and walking three. Kane Dunlavy, Kohlhorst, and Barrett each collected two hits for Goddard Varsity Lions. Valley Center Varsity Hornets accumulated 14 hits in the game. Jack Dingman, Gavin Byers, Needham, Saner, and Cooper Boone each collected two hits for Valley Center Varsity Hornets. Needham went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.
