Shasta Lake, CA — Enterprise Varsity Hornets's bats were strong against Central Valley on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as The Lady Hornets fell 12-9. Central Valley collected nine hits, while The Hornets had eight.
Maya Hubbs collected three hits in five at bats in the loss. Hubbs singled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the first inning.
Enterprise got on the board in the top of the first inning after Carly Graham doubled to center field, Rachel Hess was struck by a pitch, and then Enterprise scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Central Valley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring seven runs on two hits to take the lead, 8-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Joleen Short that drove in two.
Short earned the win for Central Valley. The pitcher surrendered five hits and six runs (two earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out six and walking four. Hubbs pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief for Enterprise Varsity Hornets. The reliever allowed eight hits and seven runs (three earned) while, striking out one and walking six. Shelby Hopper took the loss for The Hornets. The hurler went one and one-third innings, allowing five runs on one hit, striking out two and walking five. Luna Blankenship started in the circle for Central Valley. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking one.
Hubbs and Graham each collected three hits for The Lady Hornets. Enterprise had patience at the plate, amassing five walks for the game. Ava Gonzalez and Lannamae Saelee led the team with two walks each. Hubbs stole three bases. Enterprise ran wild on the base paths, piling up seven stolen bases for the game.
Short provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Central Valley with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Short, Savannah Beckman, and Hazel Chavez each collected two hits for Central Valley. Ava Lanzit led Central Valley with four walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Jaycee Horst, Harley Wilson, and Chavez each stole multiple bases for Central Valley. Central Valley stole seven bases in the game.
