Redding, CA — Shasta defeated Enterprise Hornets 16-5 on Tuesday thanks in part to 10 runs in the third inning. Shasta got on the board in the top of the first inning after Haley Salkeld doubled to left field, and Enterprise Hornets dropped a third strike, each scoring one run. Enterprise Hornets tied the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Enterprise Hornets tied the game at two on a single by Emma Souza. Shasta flipped the game on its head in the top of the third, scoring 10 runs on seven hits to take the lead, 12-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Anna Peña that drove in three. Callie Hemsted earned the win for Shasta. The hurler surrendered five hits and five runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking two. Shelby Hopper took the loss for Enterprise Hornets. The starting pitcher went five innings, giving up 16 runs (15 earned) on 12 hits, striking out five and walking seven. Carly Graham led Enterprise Hornets with two hits in three at bats. Shasta tallied 12 hits in the game. Peña and Sheala Buelna each collected three hits for Shasta. Peña and Hemsted each drove in two runs for Shasta. Ryleigh Scarborough collected two hits for Shasta in two at bats. Shasta had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Scarborough and Alivia Ridenour led the team with two free passes each. Hannah Salkeld stole two bases. Shasta stole five bases in the game.
