Redding, CA — Enterprise Hornets couldn't keep up with Shasta and fell 11-1 on Tuesday.
A sacrifice fly by Sheala Buelna put Shasta on the board in the bottom of the first.
Shasta scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second inning. Anna Peña drew a walk, scoring one run, Soleil Waterman scored after tagging up, Buelna singled, scoring two runs, and Ryleigh Scarborough drew a walk, scoring one run.
Shasta added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Buelna was struck by a pitch, Callie Hemsted walked, Hannah Salkeld walked, and Sophia Drumheller grounded into a fielder's choice, each scoring one run.
Hemsted earned the win for Shasta. The pitcher allowed four hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Shelby Hopper took the loss for Enterprise Hornets. The righty went four and two-thirds innings, giving up 11 runs (five earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking five.
Ava Gonzalez went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Maya Hubbs set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Enterprise Hornets with two hits in three at bats.
Buelna drove the middle of the lineup, leading Shasta with four runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-1 on the day. Isla Lynch, Peña, Waterman, Buelna, and Hemsted each collected one hit for Shasta. Hemsted paced Shasta with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting five walks for the game. Peña stole two bases. Shasta stole four bases in the game. Shasta turned one double play in the game. Shasta were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Drumheller had the most chances in the field with four.
