Zion, IL — The Zee-Bees built a 9-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Niles North Varsity Vikings's charge for a 10-8 victory on Saturday. Zion-Benton got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Aaden Grider lined out, scoring one run, Ross Ames singled, scoring one run, and Jack Marabella singled, scoring two runs. The Zee-Bees scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Brayden Duran hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Grider doubled, scoring two runs, Trey Harmon singled, scoring two runs, and Andrew Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Michael Gonzalez earned the win for the Zee-Bees. The hurler allowed five hits and four runs (zero earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out four and walking three. Sam Villarreal collected the save. Ames appeared in relief for Zion-Benton. The Zee-Bees amassed 10 hits in the game. AJ Neargarder, Ames, and Marabella each collected two hits for Zion-Benton. Harmon and Grider each drove in two runs for the Zee-Bees. Dominic Diliberti paced Zion-Benton with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game.
