Recap
Easton, PA — If you like great pitching and low scoring baseball games the Stroudsburg vs. Easton Varsity Baseball contest was the one for you. As the Easton Red Rovers picked up their third win in a row by defeating the Mountaineers 1-0 on an overcast and cold day.
Easton Senior pitcher Zach Mattes tossed a 1 - 0 complete game 2 hit shutout for the win. Mattes was in control only surrendering 2 hits walking none and striking out 7 Stroudsburg batters. Mattes mixed his fastball with sharp breaking off-speed pitches to keep the Mountaineer offense off the scoreboard.
The Rovers scored a single run in the second inning on a Max Martenis 2 strike single to right field knocking in Kurtis Crossman who laced a double with 1 out. The Rovers were able to load the bases in the 6th inning with no outs but were not able to push across a run against Stroudsburg pitcher Damian Budhai who struck out the next two Rover hitters and induced a ground ball to shortstop to end the threat. Budhai scattered 7 hits walking 1 and striking out 7 Easton batters.
Max Martenis had 2 hit and the lone RBI for the game and Mason Stout added hits for the Red Rovers who move to 3-1 for the season.
The Rovers are next in action on Friday in away game against the Freedom Patriots.
