Utica, MI — Adams Varsity Highlanders Come Up Short Against Utica Varsity Chieftains

Adams Varsity Highlanders could not keep pace with Utica Varsity Chieftains 8-4 on Monday at Utica High School.
A single by Stella Phillips put Adams Varsity Highlanders on the board in the top of the third.
Utica Varsity Chieftains took the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Ava Brunning doubled down the left field line, and Utica Varsity Chieftains scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Adams Varsity Highlanders took the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Adams Varsity Highlanders scored on a passed ball, Elle Moody doubled to center field, and Olivia Viazanko singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Utica Varsity Chieftains flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on five hits to take the lead, 7-4. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Rachel Durecki that drove in two.
Violet Smith earned the win for Utica Varsity Chieftains. The righty allowed eight hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Lilley Lutzka took the loss for Adams Varsity Highlanders. The right-handed pitcher went six innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out five and walking three.
Viazanko and Moody were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Adams Varsity Highlanders while hitting back-to-back. Viazanko and Phillips each drove in one run for Adams Varsity Highlanders. Adams Varsity Highlanders didn't commit a single error in the field. Makenzie Grimes had the most chances in the field with eight.
Utica Varsity Chieftains amassed 10 hits in the game. Durecki provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Utica Varsity Chieftains with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Gabby Vitale went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Utica Varsity Chieftains in hits. Brunning and Smith each collected multiple hits for Utica Varsity Chieftains. Utica Varsity Chieftains didn't commit a single error in the field. Brunning had the most chances in the field with 10.
Adams Varsity Highlanders will travel to Utica Varsity Chieftains for their next game on Monday.
