April 9 vs Stoney Creek
April 9th GB Varsity Softball had their season opener. Everyone was excited to step onto our home field to begin what we all hoped for, an exciting season together! That's how our first game started, a nail biter! It came down to the wire as we grabbed the victory from Stoney Creek. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the 8th when Kate Mitchell singled, allowing Ella Stevenson to score during our international tie breaker. Savannah Schultz struck out 11 batters, allowed one hit, and one run over six and two-thirds innings, while walking one with Ella Stevenson behind the plate. We started strong with 3 runs in the first inning after Mitchell grounded out, scoring one run, and Grace Matney singled, scoring two runs. Our bats went cold until Matney hit a triple at the bottom of the 6th which helped us tie the game. Zoey Beard, Kate Mitchell, and Brooke Rhode all had big catches for us in the outfield allowing for minimal damages from the other team. Schultz and Hannah Johnson also had the most putouts for the game.
