Payson, AZ — Show Low Varsity Cougars were triumphant over St. Mary's Varsity Knights 7-4 on Saturday. St. Mary's Varsity Knights got on the board in the first inning after Dariana Garcia Salas drew a walk, scoring one run. A play extended the St. Mary's Varsity Knights lead to 2-0 in the top of the second inning. Show Low Varsity Cougars flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Addisyn Clark that drove in three. Show Low Varsity Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to left field by Gracie Umphress following a 6-pitch at-bat. Riley Heuett earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The pitcher gave up four hits and four runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Meredith Schager took the loss for St. Mary's Varsity Knights. The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on two hits, striking out one and walking four. Aspyn Clark threw one inning of no-run ball for Show Low Varsity Cougars in relief. The hurler allowed zero hits, striking out none and walking none. Umphress led Show Low Varsity Cougars with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The catcher went 2-for-2 on the day.
