Payson, AZ — Show Low Varsity Cougars snatched the lead late in their 8-5 victory over Santa Cruz Valley Varsity Dust Devils on Saturday. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the fourth when Aspyn Clark homered to center field, scoring three runs. Show Low Varsity Cougars got on the board in the first inning after Addisyn Clark grounded out, scoring one run. Four more Show Low Varsity Cougars runs crossed the plate in the second inning to extend the lead to 5-0. Riley Heuett homered to center field, scoring two runs, Gracie Umphress tripled, scoring one run, and Rylee Wyatt grounded out, scoring one run. Santa Cruz Valley Varsity Dust Devils tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to an error, and a double by Emilee Brown. Clark earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The reliever gave up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking one. Alyssa Flores took the loss for Santa Cruz Valley Varsity Dust Devils. The starter went four innings, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits, striking out none and walking none. Clark started in the circle for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The starter allowed six hits and five runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking two. Show Low Varsity Cougars amassed 10 hits in the game. Umphress, Angelee Villa, and Clark each collected two hits for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Clark went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in.
