Newtown Varsity Nighthawks outsted Pomperaug 5-1 on Monday.
Newtown Varsity Nighthawks were the first to get on the board in the second when Jack Carta singled, scoring one run.
Jamie Piccuillo earned the win for Newtown Varsity Nighthawks. The starter allowed five hits and one run over six innings, striking out nine and walking four. #6 took the loss for Pomperaug. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking one. Danny Leyva collected the save.
Newtown Varsity Nighthawks accumulated 10 hits in the game. Kieran Garrity drove the middle of the lineup, leading Newtown Varsity Nighthawks with two runs batted in.
