Norwalk, CA — Norwalk Varsity Lancers snatched the lead late in their 5-4 victory over Cerritos Varsity Lady Dons on Wednesday. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Diana Avina doubled, scoring one run. Cerritos Varsity Lady Dons got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Zoe C grounded out, and Michelle M doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Norwalk Varsity Lancers took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Sarah Ramirez singled down the left field line, Mariah Favela singled up the middle, and Yanelli (Julie) Vega singled to center field, each scoring one run. Cerritos Varsity Lady Dons took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Noelle M singled to right field, and Megan W singled to center field, each scoring one run. In the top of the seventh inning, Norwalk Varsity Lancers went back into the lead after Alyssa Hurst doubled to center field, and Diana Avina doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Alyssa Hurst earned the win for Norwalk Varsity Lancers. The lefty allowed 13 hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out one and walking one. Ava C started in the circle for Cerritos Varsity Lady Dons. The righty surrendered seven hits and three runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Norwalk Varsity Lancers amassed 11 hits in the game. Diana Avina went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Norwalk Varsity Lancers in hits. Mariah Favela, Sarah Ramirez, Yanelli (Julie) Vega, Diana Avina, and Alyssa Hurst each drove in one run for Norwalk Varsity Lancers. Jezrael Acosta collected two hits for Norwalk Varsity Lancers in three at bats. Norwalk Varsity Lancers were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
