San Juan Capistrano, CA — The @jserra.baseball team began the Boras Baseball Classic in winning form on Tuesday, as the Lions defeated Cathedral Catholic High of San Diego 6-1 at JSerra Catholic High School.
JSerra is now 4-3 on the season.
Cathedral Catholic tallied the first run of the game in the first inning, but the Lions tied the game in the bottom of the second on a infield single by senior Carter Meza.
JSerra took a 2-1 lead one inning later on an RBI single by sophomore Shane D’Arcy.
The Lions added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, as junior Takashi Rutherford hit a sacrifice fly and sophomore Ayden Coleman laced a two-out RBI single to center.
Seniors Brayden Boop and Jordan Marian each produced RBI doubles in the bottom of the sixth inning for the final runs of the contest.
Marian finished with a team-best three hits in four at-bats.
Junior Blake Bowen went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Senior Josh Hollis was stout on the mound for the Lions, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing no earned runs, while striking out seven batters.
