Rochester, MI — Adams Varsity Highlanders Triumph Over Utica Varsity Chieftains By GameChanger Media Adams Varsity Highlanders were victorious against Utica Varsity Chieftains 6-2 on Monday at Utica High School. Utica Varsity Chieftains opened the scoring in the first after Rachel Durecki hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Utica Varsity Chieftains added one run in the third after Adams Varsity Highlanders committed an error. Adams Varsity Highlanders tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a single by Elle Moody, and a ground out by Olivia Viazanko. In the top of the fifth, Adams Varsity Highlanders broke up the tie when Makenzie Grimes singled, scoring two runs. Then a sacrifice fly by Moody followed to extend the lead to 5-2. Viazanko earned the win for Adams Varsity Highlanders. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs (zero earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none. Ava Mazza took the loss for Utica Varsity Chieftains. The starter went four innings, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out six and walking two. Tenley Boughner and Alivia Cook each collected two hits for Adams Varsity Highlanders. Grimes and Moody each drove in two runs for Adams Varsity Highlanders. Grimes, Moody, Stella Phillips, and Boughner each stole multiple bases for Adams Varsity Highlanders. Adams Varsity Highlanders stole 11 bases in the game. Violet Smith set the tone at the top of the lineup, leading Utica Varsity Chieftains with two hits in three at bats. Durecki led Utica Varsity Chieftains with one run batted in.
