Newtown Downs Stratford
In a hard fought game played in gloomy & wet conditions at Penders Field, league rival Newtown came away with a 3-0 shutout win over Stratford. Stratford’s starter Blake Merfalen was superb throughout holding down the Newtown attack. They scored 1 early on a RBI single to CF & added insurance runs on a first & third situation in the 7th when Stratford got caught throwing the ball around. Stratford’s attack was limited to Brayan Fernandez’s line drive 2 strike base hit to CF & Joshua Tiberio’s 2 strike opposite field base hit. Syratford had chances in the bottom of the 5th & 6th with runners on second & third both half innings but could not punch in any timely hits or runs. Stratford remains busy with a 6:00 game Friday night versus Bethel (Senior Night) and a split doubleheader on Saturday with Harding at 1:00 and East Catholic at 7:30 (the Penders Memorial Scholarship Game).
