Caledonia, MI — Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) took down Haslett Varsity Vikings 8-3 on Saturday at Caledonia.
Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) got on the board in the first inning after Jackson McNew tripled, scoring one run.
Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) added one run in the second after Cole Nyman hit a sacrifice fly.
Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ryne Wysocki was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Ethan Sova singled, scoring one run, Ty Lewandowski drew a walk, scoring one run, Matt Hood induced McNew to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, and Trevor Walter singled, scoring one run.
Sova earned the win for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity). The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out one and walking one. Henry Block took the loss for Haslett Varsity Vikings. The southpaw went three and one-third innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on four hits, striking out four and walking five. Walter appeared in relief for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity).
McNew drove the middle of the lineup, leading Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Ben Kieliszewski, Cam Myers, Sova, McNew, Wysocki, and Walter each collected one hit for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity). Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) stole six bases in the game.
Ayden Smith led Haslett Varsity Vikings with two hits in three at bats from the leadoff position. Jacob Rienstra and Kai Schaefer each drove in one run for Haslett Varsity Vikings.
