Caledonia, MI — Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) snatched the lead late in their 5-4 victory over Sparta Varsity Spartans on Friday. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the fifth when Cam Myers grounded out, scoring one run. A walk by Cole Nyman put Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) on the board in the bottom of the second. Tyler Pangborn singled down the left field line, which helped Sparta Varsity Spartans tie the game at one in the top of the third. A single by Tanner Guerra gave Sparta Varsity Spartans the lead, 2-1, in the top of the fourth. Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) made the score 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth after Jackson McNew singled, scoring one run, Trevor Walter singled, scoring two runs, and Myers grounded out, scoring one run. Gabe Trudeau earned the win for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity). The reliever gave up zero hits and zero runs over one and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking none. Chris Feustel took the loss for Sparta Varsity Spartans. The starter went six innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out six and walking two. Ethan Sova stepped on the mound first for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity). The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and four runs over four and one-third innings, striking out three and walking one. AJ Roszkowski collected the save. Walter drove the middle of the lineup, leading Caledonia Fighting Scots (Varsity) with two runs batted in. The center fielder went 2-for-3 on the day.
