Caledonia, MI — Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen) defeated Zeeland East 11-2 on Monday at Caledonia thanks in part to six runs in the second inning. JJ Abbott singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, a dropped third strike scored one run, Evan Crater drew a walk, scoring one run, and one run scored on another play.
Zeeland East got on the board in the first inning after Bazon grounded out, scoring one run.
Zeeland East committed an error, which helped Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen) tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Gage Openshaw earned the win for Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen). The starter allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Hafemon started on the hill for Zeeland East. The hurler surrendered two hits and seven runs (three earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking four.
Abbott led Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen) with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Logan Pratt led Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen) with two hits in three at bats. Caledonia Fighting Scots (Freshmen) had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game.
