Elliot Nerenberg struck out 10 batters as the starter led Westhill Junior Varsity Vikings past Staples 6-5 on Monday. Elliot Nerenberg allowed three hits and four runs over six innings while walking four.
Westhill Junior Varsity Vikings came back to win despite trailing 4-0 in the second.
Staples were the first to get on the board in the first when PlayerE singled, scoring two runs.
Staples extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by PlayerB and PlayerD.
Westhill Junior Varsity Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a triple by Matthew Pascarella, and a single by Brayden Slocum.
In the bottom of the fifth, Westhill Junior Varsity Vikings broke up the tie when one run scored on another play. Then a ground out by Gavin Cooper followed to extend the lead to 6-4.
PlayerC took the loss for Staples. The pitcher went four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out five and walking five. Daurin Arias collected the save.
