Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings Fall After Strong Showing By Vassar

Vassar, MI — Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings couldn't keep up with Vassar and fell 14-3 on Wednesday.
A tag up by Gleeson put Vassar on the board in the top of the first.
Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Max Kern was struck by a pitch, Joel C. was struck by a pitch, and Jeff Diehl walked, each scoring one run.
Vassar made the score 4-3 in the top of the second after a steal of home scored one run, and Nickerson drew a walk, scoring one run.
Vassar added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Huizar doubled, scoring two runs, and Nickerson drew a walk, scoring one run.
Vassar scored seven runs on eight hits in the top of the fourth inning. Jaynes drew a walk, scoring one run, Huizar doubled, scoring three runs, Horton singled, scoring one run, Hecht drew a walk, scoring one run, and Gleeson singled, scoring one run.
Colton Donovan started on the hill for Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings. The left-handed pitcher allowed nine hits and 13 runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking nine. Nickerson led things off on the hill for Vassar. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out three and walking none.
Avian Graves, Kent Bernia, and Deegan Walstead each collected one hit for Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings. Kern and C. each drove in one run for Akron-Fairgrove Varsity Vikings. Vassar were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Rondo made the most plays with seven.
