The Zee-Bees scored six runs in the third inning, which helped them defeat Harvard Varsity Hornets 11-1 on Friday at Zion-Benton Township High School District 126. Jack Marabella doubled, scoring one run, Trey Harmon drew a walk, scoring one run, Jake Mitchell drew a walk, scoring one run, Andrew Mitchell singled, scoring one run, and AJ Neargarder singled, scoring two runs.
Michael Gonzalez singled to right field on a full count, which helped the Zee-Bees tie the game at one in the bottom of the first.
Neargarder earned the win for Zion. The pitcher surrendered four hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Zee-Bees amassed 10 hits in the game. Gonzalez and Marabella were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Zee-Bees. Neargarder, Harmon, and Marabella each drove in two runs for the Zee-Bees. Mitchell led Zion-Benton with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game.
The Zee-Bees will travel to Stevenson for their next game on Monday.
