Centerline, MI — The Center Line Panthers pulled off a dramatic 21-20 victory over St. Clair on Friday night, with senior defensive back Anton Davenport sealing the win with a clutch interception with 1:15 remaining in the game. Davenport anchored the defense all night, finishing with seven tackles to go along with the game-saving play. The Panthers struck first when junior running back Masai Ali broke free for a 15-yard touchdown run. Senior Corday White, stepping up at quarterback, powered in the second score on a 12-yard run and completed the two point conversion to senior TE Amarion Lyte to tie the game 14-14. Before halftime, Ali added his second touchdown of the night, helping the Panthers take a 21-20 lead into the break. That score proved to be the difference, as the second half turned into a defensive slugfest. The Panthers’ defense rose to the occasion, holding St. Clair scoreless the rest of the way. Ali was the workhorse offensively, carrying the ball 30 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns, punishing the Saints’ defense throughout the night. White was equally impressive, completing 6 of 7 passes for 57 yards, adding his rushing touchdown, and making a major impact defensively with 14 tackles. Junior athlete Darius Wallace showcased his versatility, rushing five times for 59 yards, catching three passes for 27 yards, and recording seven tackles with two forced fumbles on defense. With the win, Center Line proved its resilience in a tough battle, leaning on star performances and a lockdown defensive effort in the second half to secure the narrow victory.
