Temecula, CA — The @jserra.softball team is headed to its’ first ever CIF-SS title game, as the Lions knocked off the Great Oak Wolfpack, 9-6, in a CIF-SS Division 2 semifinals game on Saturday at Great Oak High School in Temecula.
JSerra (19-13) has won six straight games will take on either Santa Margarita or Los Alamitos in the championship game next weekend.
The Lions jumped out to 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
Sophomore Anneke Lukowski stole second base, and a Wolfpack throwing error allowed Lukowski to race home with the game’s first run.
The Lions added to the lead in the top of the second inning.
After a one-out walk to sophomore Brooklyn Lamb and a single to center field by freshman Madeline Capek, freshman Ava Van Heerde smacked a single into center field to score junior pitch runner Emily Zora to make it 2-0.
Freshman Melia Munoz produced a massive swing of the bat in the top of the third inning.
Following senior Brooke Stephens getting hit by a pitch and an intentional walk to freshman Annabel Raftery, Munoz drove a two-strike pitch over the wall in center field for a three-run home run to boost the Lions advantage to 5-0.
Great Oak tallied a run in the bottom of the third inning, but the Lions answered with two runs into the top of the fourth inning.
Van Heerde collected her second RBI single to center field to score Capek and Raftery drove in a run with a fielder’s choice groundout to make it 7-1.
Great Oak rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to narrow the Lions’ lead to 7-6.
The Wolfpack got the tying run on base in the bottom of the sixth, but Raftery came through with a clutch caught stealing to help quell the threat.
Lamb provided important breathing room in the top of the seventh inning, as she launched a two-run home run over the fence in left center field for the final runs of the game.
