DORRENCE TWP. — On regular rest, Crestwood ace Chris Litchkofski is pretty tough to deal with. Add in a few extra days and get him some early run support, Litchkofski can be dominant.
That was the case Monday afternoon when Litchkofski pitched a five-inning, complete-game one-hitter in Crestwood’s 10-0 victory over Wyoming Area in the District 2 Class 4A baseball semifinals.
The win sends the Comets to Friday’s championship game where they will face Mid Valley at 4:30 p.m. at the University of Scranton.
“Starting the game off and having some run support, I knew what I had to do,” said Litchkofski, now 6-3 on the season. “Just pure confidence. I think I was definitely prepared.”
The only hit Litchkofski allowed came to Wyoming Area leadoff hitter Jacob Snyder, who singled up the middle on the fifth pitch of the game. From there, Litchkofski dialed in and did not allow a batter to advance past second base after the first inning.
“He has worked exceptionally hard through the years,” Crestwood coach Sean Foley said of Litchkofski. “He is pretty efficient. He has four A-1 pitches he can throw anywhere in the count.”
The Comets sent eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the first and scored two runs. They sent 11 to the plate in the second and scored seven times to open up the game.
In the first inning, Zach Stavish doubled to the gap in left-center to score Connor Wagaman. Caleb McManus walked with the bases loaded to bring in the second run.
Crestwood’s second-inning rally started when Chase Galella singled up the middle to lead things off. After Jack Rodgers sacrificed him to second, Dylan Domzalski was hit by a pitch and a walked loaded the bases. Jacob Feisel, Galella and Josh Mylet also had RBIs in the inning. The Comets scored their 10th run of the game in the third on a wild pitch.
The Comets (13-9) are guaranteed a spot in the state playoffs with District 2 receiving two teams. They will get the opportunity to win the program’s first district title Friday.
“We told the kids this is the one (game) we have to have,” Foley said. “This guarantees a spot in the state tournament. There is a banner inside the school with nothing on it. It’s basically bases. Friday is important in a lot of ways.”
Foley said Litchkofski only threw 89 pitches and he will be eligible to come back and pitch again in the final against Mid Valley if Foley decides to give him the ball.”
