Recap
Saline, MI — The Saline Hornets put together their most complete performance of the season, rolling past their opponent behind a relentless ground game, efficient passing, and a suffocating defense that set the tone from start to finish.
Offense Strikes Balance
Saline’s offense was firing on all cylinders, piling up 351 total yards with an impressive mix of rushing and passing. The ground game proved nearly unstoppable, racking up 192 yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Leading the charge was Carson Cherry, named Offensive Player of the Game, who broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run on his way to 97 yards rushing. He was joined in the scoring column by Colton Tousa (54 yards, TD), Braylon Thomas (20-yard TD), Tommy Carr (11-yard TD), and James Rush (5-yard TD).
Quarterback Carr kept the defense off balance through the air, completing 10 of 15 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. His scoring strikes went to Lucas Fidh, who hauled in a 22-yard TD reception, and Cruz Hanson, who added a 19-yard touchdown catch.
Defense Locks Down
While the offense lit up the scoreboard, the Hornets’ defense was equally dominant, surrendering just 99 total yards and five first downs all night.
Linebacker Gabe Iadipaolo, named Defensive Player of the Game, paced the unit with 11 total tackles and a tackle for loss. He was supported by Caleb Harris (5 tackles), Allen Saidov (2 tackles, sack), and Wyatt McPherson (6 tackles, 1 sack).
The defensive line made its mark as well, with Garrett Male and Dawoud Issa each recording interceptions to swing momentum.
Keys to Victory
The Hornets were flawless in the red zone, scoring on all four of their trips inside the 20-yard line, while the defense prevented Skyline from registering a single red zone attempt. Saline also dominated the turnover battle, finishing +2 thanks to its pair of interceptions.
With 10 explosive plays (six runs of 12+ yards, four passes of 16+ yards) and control of the trenches on both sides of the ball, Saline dictated the pace and left little doubt in the outcome.
Building Momentum
Practice players of the week, Justin Reeves and Chuck Bever, were also recognized for their preparation and energy leading into the matchup — effort that clearly paid off on game night.
This complete team effort showed the Hornets’ potential as they look to carry momentum into next week’s matchup against Ann Arbor Pioneer.
