Breakers Outlast Pirates in 49-45 Shootout, Stay Perfect at 5-0

Laguna Beach, CA — The Laguna Beach Breakers held off the visiting San Pedro Pirates in a 49-45 thriller Friday night in non-league play.
Quarterback Jack Hurst powered the Breakers’ offense, throwing for 291 yards and four touchdowns. Freshman running back Charlie Christian was just as dominant on the ground, rushing for 137 yards and two scores on 19 carries.
Through the air, junior wide receiver Brady Stringham put on a show, finishing with six receptions for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Jack Hooper added 17 yards on two catches, while junior Will Kimball hauled in four passes for 77 yards. Junior Wyatt Bogdan and junior Bob Gardner each chipped in with a touchdown reception to cap a balanced passing attack.
On defense, sophomore Colter Steris and Bogdan came up clutch with interceptions, halting Pirate drives in the second half.
Special teams were again key for Laguna Beach. Stringham went 5-for-6 on PATs and boomed eight kickoffs for 437 yards, averaging 54.6 per attempt with a long of 60.
With the win, Laguna Beach improves to 5-0 on the season. They’ll return to action on Friday, October 3, when they host Northwood (Irvine, CA) in a Foxtrot League matchup. The Timberwolves (3-2) are coming off a 22-14 win over Portola.
San Pedro falls to 2-4 and will travel to face Narbonne (Harbor City, CA) on October 3. The Gauchos enter at 0-6 after a 33-0 loss to King/Drew.
