Aliso Viejo, CA — University on a hot and windy Saturday afternoon fell to Capo Valley Christian’s football team 35-7 at Aliso Viejo High School. The Eagles mixed the run and the pass to prevail 35-7. On the first play from scrimmage CVC’s Luke Vincent ran 66 yards to the University six-yard line to set the tone. Three plays later he scored on a 1-yard run. The senior running back carried the ball 25 times for 232 yards and three touchdowns while also catching three passes for 19 yards. University got on the board in the third quarter with a 31-yard catch and run scoring play down the right sideline from junior pivot Dylan Elmer to senior wide receiver Arvin Jahangiri who scored his first varsity touchdown. Jahangiri had three receptions for 57 yards after missing almost his entire junior season due to an injury in his first game. Elmer completed nine of 24 passes for 143 yards. His favorite target was senior Cruz McMullens who caught five of those throws for 51 yards. University had just seven first downs, but did force four turnovers. Interceptions were made by McMullens and Jake Rabhold. The Trojans also forced two fumbles. Rabold did a little bit of everything with a fumble recovery, an interception, two deep kickoffs (one a touchback), two punts over 60 yards (one that rolled out of bounds at the six-yard line) and an extra point. Joey Davis got plenty of reps on kickoffs returning 6 for 105 yards. On defense, the white uniforms with blue trim Trojans were led by 8 tackles by Jahangiri, 6 tackles by McMullens and 5 by Charlie Carmichael, who made his Varsity debut. Senior Luke Emrich had 5 tackles along with Lucca Clouthier who also recorded his first sack of the season. Other players who contributed in their first varsity game included Deandre Miller with 3 tackles along with Henry DeAsis and Aleks Savinok who each had a solo tackle. The Trojan’s look to rebound with a Thursday night home opener against Los Amigos High School.
