Led by University’s junior quarterback Dylan Elmer took his game to another level, passing for three touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a 34-7 non-league victory over Glenn in front of a packed Homecoming crowd. Elmer completed 14 of 25 passes for 341 yards which officials said Saturday is a school record for passing yards in a game by a Trojan. Receiver Cruz McMullens was spectactular with six catches for 216 yards including a 68-yard TD catch on the final play of the first half that gave that gave Uni a 28-7 lead at the break. “It’s a great feeling to come out here and take care of business in our Homecoming game,” Elmer said. “I feel like I was clicking with a lot of my receivers, especially Cruz McMullens and Arvin Jahangiri, we were able to just go over the top a lot and I’m just proud of how we all played tonight. “We are 2-0 at home, it’s always nice to win at home, it’s extra special because it’s Homecoming and a lot of my family was here.” Uni has out scored opponents 57-14 in total at Home. “This might be my best game yet,” Elmer said. “I think I had 240 (yards) in week two against Los Amigos. We’ve had a rough past two games, it’s great to just get back on track and get another win in the win column.” University Coach VInce Mesa was pleased how his team (2-3) responded on Homecoming. “The boys played well,” Mesa said. “We were really on fire at the beginning and in the first half, did some really good things. Second half, we were trying to work on some things so we kind of had some stalled drives. Overall, we played pretty well and the defense played lights out, we had a defensive touchdown and had a couple turnovers. I think it was a great overall team victory tonight.” University’s Deandre Miller capped the Trojans scoring when he picked up a fumble and returned the ball 15 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put Uni ahead 34-7. Elmer threw touchdown passes for 8 and 37 yards to Jahangiri in the first half to put the Trojans ahead 14-0. The Trojans drove deep into Glenn territory late in the first half, but Glenn’s Okoro Lee intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned the ball 101 yards for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-7. However, on the enusing kickoff Uni’s Charlie Carmichael returned the ball 50 yards to the Glenn 38-yard line. Uni’s Zion Baretto then scored from 1 yard out to put the Trojans ahead 21-7. Then the Trojans took control on the final play of the first on Elmer’s bomb to McMullens on first down. “Dylan had a really good game tonight,” Mesa said. “I keep hearing he’s got the record, I don’t know if that’s true or not but that’s great. He had some really nice long balls tonight. And he’s only a junior.” Mesa was also pleased with McMullen’s play. “With Cruz, he started off the year a little slow,” Mesa said. “Now, he’s really starting to find his groove, he had a really good last year. The thing is last year he had a broken hand so he couldn’t play offense for us. He’s kind of making up for it right now.” Glenn (2-4) was led by quarterback Luis Vergara, who passed for 169 yards. Now the Trojans look to bottle some of that home momentum as they turn their attention to the road in their League start against defending league champs Pacifica with hopes to make CIF playoffs.
