Whitehall, PA — Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs fell to Emmaus 9-5 on Thursday.
Emmaus got on the board in the first inning after Gitski scored after tagging up.
Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs took the lead in the bottom of the first. Dunbar tripled, scoring two runs, to give Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs the upper hand, 2-1.
Emmaus captured the lead, 5-2, in the top of the fifth when Derr doubled, scoring one run, Eiswerth singled, scoring two runs, and Schwab singled, scoring one run.
Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs made the score 9-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Laub tripled, scoring one run, and Espinal homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Eiswerth earned the win for Emmaus. The pitcher gave up seven hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking three. Laub took the loss for Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs. The starting pitcher went six innings, allowing seven runs (five earned) on 13 hits, striking out one and walking one.
Espinal and Dunbar were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs. Laub and Dunbar each collected two hits for Whitehall Varsity Zephyrs.
Emmaus accumulated 15 hits in the game. Hauver led Emmaus with four hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Derr and Eiswerth were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Emmaus. Gigliotti and Gitski each collected multiple hits for Emmaus. Emmaus were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. DeFanti had the most chances in the field with eight.
