Tucson, AZ — Salpointe Catholic gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about in Wednesday’s season opener, powering past the Eastmark Firebirds with an impressive 3-1 victory. The Lancers extended their winning streak against Eastmark to four straight matches, showcasing the same dominance that’s come to define this rivalry. When Salpointe was on, they were on. They rolled to double-digit wins in all three of their victorious sets, closing things out with scores of 25-11, 21-25, 25-15, and 25-13. The win was a total team effort, but one standout was libero Reagan Burgle, who anchored the defense with 16 digs—her highest total since August 2024—and added two aces for good measure. She wasn’t the only one doing damage from the service line. The Lancers were locked in behind the line, racking up ten aces as a team. It’s become something of a trademark for Salpointe, which has now served seven or more aces in nine straight matches dating back to last season. Next up, the Lancers will hit the road to face ALA – Queen Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Firebirds will look to bounce back when they host Thunderbird on Thursday at the same time.
