Tucson, AZ — Salpointe Catholic and Saguaro squared off Friday night in a clash of Arizona powerhouses—and it didn’t disappoint. In a game packed with momentum swings and big-time plays, the Lancers stormed back from a 17-0 hole to edge the Sabercats in a nail-biting 34-31 victory.
Leading the charge for Salpointe was wideout RJ Gory, who torched the defense with 164 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Matthew Avelar delivered a stellar performance of his own, throwing for 295 yards and four scores. On the defensive side, the Lancers held firm against the pass, holding Saguaro to just a 50% completion rate while completing nearly 65% themselves.
The Sabercats didn’t go down quietly. Quarterback Marcel Jones showcased his dual-threat ability, passing for 230 yards and three touchdowns while adding 71 yards and another score on the ground. His go-to target, Oliver Gibson, once again lit up the stat sheet with 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
With the win, Salpointe moves to 3-0, riding an offense that’s averaging 28 points per game. Saguaro, meanwhile, falls to 1-2 despite strong efforts across the board.
