La Verne, CA — The Bearcats closed out their three-match homestand on a high note, sweeping Don Lugo in straight sets and improving their season record to 5-3. With the win, the team finished the stretch at home with a 2-1 mark and built momentum heading into the next week. Sophomore middle Jade Van Gorder anchored the Bearcats’ effort, dominating the net while showcasing a standout performance behind the service line and in defensive coverage. Her all-around presence set the tone early and often. Fellow sophomore Elle Howie continued to be a force at the net, racking up several emphatic kills to keep Don Lugo on their heels. Juniors Maddie Van Duyne and Sara Yeats added to the offensive firepower, consistently stretching Don Lugo’s defense and finding open space on the court. With confidence building and chemistry clicking, the Bearcats will look to defend their home court once again on Tuesday, September 2, when they host Rancho Cucamonga at 4:30 p.m.
