Lansing, IL — The first game of the season didn't start the way we would like. The boys struggled with some nerves it seemed on the first offensive possession putting the ball on the ground twice in the face of a fired up TF South defense. A fine punt by Atticus gave us some breathing room and our defense came out and matched South's intensity. Pedro Colon stood out on the defensive line but really all of the line players rotating through provided a solid push. This freed up safeties and linebackers to really put some big hits. Carmello and Fernando pushed up making some great tackles and Fernando got an interception. Our outside line backers also had a tremendous day. before a knee injury ended his day Xavian had TFL on a blitz from the week side to set up a punt. Thomas stepped up when both outside linebackers were injured on the same play and had numerous standout plays that kept the game 0-0 at half. The boys just missed a couple of tackles on the first drive by South in the second half resulted in a score. The offense performed better in the second half but couldn't sustained a drive. The teams fell back into a back and forth patterns with both teams getting the better of the opposing offense. With about 3 minutes left in the fourth. South was able to escape a tackle again to set up a second score. 12-0 TF South at this point, on the Kick Off Enzo cuts back with some amazing blocks and takes it all the way back. Carmello got stopped at the line on the 2 point conversion. Atticus who's kicking had been punting well all day, kicked a bullet of an onside kick that bounced off the South player and into the arms of Taft! The boys gave it their all but couldn't rally to get one more score and the game ended 12-6 TF South.
