Santa Monica, CA — It started out great. A quick three-and-out for our opponent, the Santa Monica Vikings. On fourth down, SMHS went back to punt, but Rylan Werthmuller blocked their punt and fell on the ball in the end zone for a quick touchdown. The game went back and forth from there, but the final score was SMHS 35, LBHS 21. Layton Turner threw a nice pass to Hendricks McMann for a touchdown, and Tyler Nguyen ran for another one. Luca Guzman made all three of his PAT attempts. The stars of the game for Laguna were the offensive and defensive linemen. Already low on linemen and with a couple of injuries, James Nugent, Sokka Molteni, and Rylan Werthmuller needed to go from receiver to offensive line. The player or the game would be Luke Valentino, who played every snap on both the offensive and defensive line. We have a bye next week, and our next opponent is Tesoro High School.
