La Verne, CA — The Bearcats opened their league campaign with a dramatic comeback victory, overcoming a mid-match surge from the Bulldogs to claim a 3-2 win. The night started strong for the Bearcats, who took control early with a 25-21 win in the first set. But the momentum shifted quickly, as the Bulldogs stormed back with dominant performances in sets two and three, jumping out to big leads and putting the Bearcats on their heels. Facing a potential loss in their league opener, the Bearcats dug deep in the fourth set. Junior Sara Yeats and sophomore Ell Howie stepped up in a big way, combining for an impressive 49 kills on the night to lead the charge. Their offensive firepower helped swing the momentum back to Bearcats' side, who clawed their way back and sealed the win in a decisive fifth set.
