Kingston, NY — reported on by Rick Remsnyder in The Daily Freeman KINGSTON, N.Y. — Kingston High’s girls soccer team dropped its second straight game by one goal with a 2-1 non-league loss to Minisink Valley at Dietz Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The Tigers (0-2) were coming off a season-opening 1-0 defeat to Goshen on Friday, Aug. 29. Kingston got its lone goal against Minisink Valley on a breakaway by senior Alex Foster. She converted a feed from freshman Lexi Sandy. “Their speed was great and they created a great opportunity that Alex was able to finish,” Kingston coach Juan Weissenberg said. “They each have game-changing speed.”' The Tigers’ defense played well, but Minisink Valley got the next two goals to win the game. Minisink took a 2-1 lead early in the second half and held on for the victory. “Our mantra is defense and our defense was up to the task,” Weissenberg said. “They held them to tough shots all night and made it difficult to score.” Weissenberg praised the work of junior goalie Kallie Bennett. “She was stopping lots of good shots and was being aggressive if they had a breakaway,” he said. “Her leadership in the back helped us a lot. We were inches from scoring, but I’m happy we keep having these chances at goals. They will eventually go in and if our defense keeps it up, we are going to start winning these close games.”
