Highland Falls, NY — reported on in The Daily Freeman by Rick Remsnyder HIGHLAND FALLS, N.Y. — Kingston High senior Hailey Pederson scored in the first half and the Tigers’ defense made it hold up for a 1-0 non-league girls soccer victory at James I. O’Neill High on Monday, Sept. 8. Pederson’s goal was only the second in four games for the Tigers (1-3), but Coach Juan Weissenberg said his club’s defense has been solid early in the season. “They were playing us really well, taking away our opportunities to shoot as we only had one shot in the first half and it went in,” Weissenberg said. “We had a couple more shots in the second half, but we had limited opportunities. I told them all year that if our defense held up, we have to take advantage of any opportunity we get. We did today and got the win.” KHS junior goalie Kallie Bennett turned aside 12 shots to earn the shutout and the victory “Kallie Bennett made a lot of incredible saves, including a couple one-on-one breakaways,” Weissenberg said. “She is so confident with the breakaways and positions herself great every time, making it hard to score.” After a game Tuesday at home against Newburgh Free Academy, the Tigers play at Middletown on Thursday, Sept. 11, at 4:30 p.m..
